Extending Your Stay: #4 The Stories

Once you return to reality after a trip, it doesn’t take long for the vacation to disappear from view, much like the sun you watched set over the Pacific Ocean in Big Sur, California.

There are several things I do during and post travel that help keep the memories and the feelings of time away alive long after the suitcases have been put back in the closet.

The Stories

The final step in how I keep a trip alive is by storytelling. Yes, I have a website created for this purpose, but all of us can share our travel tales with others. I love hearing about my friend’s adventures, it always makes me want to get back out there. The world is an enormous place; there is no way I will be able to go everywhere that I hope to in my lifetime. But when someone tells me about their trip, a small part of me feels like I have been there too.

And then there is the beautiful opportunity to revisit a journey by reminiscing with those who accompanied you to a destination. Two heads – two passports – are better than one.

I want to remember every minute, every mountain, every body of water, every person I have met along the way, every restaurant, every thrill, every roadside attraction. I am so grateful that it all happened and that where memory fails, the Diaries, the Photos, the Souvenirs and the Stories won’t let me forget.
